The focus should be to define and create the enterprise “structure” so that snapshot or enterprise x-ray can be created on the fly and quickly (in minutes). Rather than consuming time in irrelevant composite models which are outdated by the time you are hit with a problem.

In the recent posts, I discussed about the changes in the Zachman framework 3.0. also discussed about the prevailing myths about the framework. Thanks for the overwhelming response and of course several questions as well .Some questions related to – what’s the difference between primitive and composite? Some of the common myths about the framework are: Is the framework for Enterprise or IT or both; colors are random; there is no Integration across columns; transformation vs. decomposition; number of rows can change, columns are arbitrary, perspectives are random; no rules to separate primitive vs. composites; architecture constructs vs. manufacturing constructs; methodology vs. ontology; taxonomy vs. ontology; checklist vs. periodic table; row 1 & row 2 vs. row 6; etc.

Here, is a list of 16 key visible changes in Zachman Framework v3.0 compared to v2.0 (2004 version). There are several noteworthy changes in the new version which raises the understanding level and discards some of the existing myths and misconceptions. Moreover, this time the framework is aimed at the enterprise community in general and clears the cloud over the prevailing confusion about Enterprise Architecture vs. Enterprise IT Architecture.
